Starting the New Year with SMART Goals

It’s January 8…how is your New Year’s Resolution going?

Only 9% of people who make a New Year’s Resolution follow through with them in the New Year. Will you make the cut?

Begin with the end in mind. What do you want to accomplish by the end of this year?

How are you going to get there?

Make your resolution SMART!

Make it…

Specific- define your expectations.

Measurable- how will you know you’ve accomplished your goal?

Attainable- make sure your goal is something you can actually accomplish

Relevant- the goal is something which you can achieve considering your current circumstances

Time-based- include time-based benchmarks and an end-time for when your goal should be completed by

By making SMART goals for yourself you make it so you can more easily hold yourself to your goals and you can tell how close you are to meeting your goals as you progress.

A few examples of SMART goals include…

If you want to eat more fruit… “I will eat a piece of fruit at breakfast three times this week”

If you want to drink more water… “I will drink at least one 8 oz glass of water with each meal this month”

If you want to eat more mindfully… “I will eat at least one meal per day this week sitting down, without any distractions”
